Thanksgiving, the day when people give thanks–which is great, but I’ve personally struggled with accepting thanks.

I’m sure many of you do as well.

I used to brush it off when someone would thank me for something and I’ve seen others do the same.

“Don’t thank me, it’s nothing.”

“No, thank you!”

It’s not that we don’t like being appreciated. It’s more not knowing how to accept thanks, or feeling undeserving of such appreciation.

Thanksgiving is as much about showing appreciation for others as it is about allowing others to demonstrate their appreciation for you and for you to realize your own significance and influence in their lives. It’s not selfish or conceited or narcissistic.

Let yourself accept that recognition and move forward from it. Allow yourself that small ego boost and let it motivate you to keep doing what you do.

Give and accept thanks. Show appreciation and allow yourself to be appreciated.

Happy Thanksgiving!
